Abstract

The effectiveness of an oral health education program in which groups are used to motivate and train patients is evaluated, and specific advantages of seeing oral health patients in groups are discussed. The functioning of a group oral health program is described. Systematic evaluation of the program over a five-month follow-up period indicated that patients significantly improved their dental health. Positive changes in health were reflected by decreased gingival bleeding and reduction of pocket depth measurements. Others might consider the values of similar group-oriented programs to train and motivate patients in oral health care.
