Abstract

AbstractThe production of high-quality seeds in agriculture is one of the most vital fields as the seed is the base of a healthy plant. The quality level is dependent on cultural practices adopted during the process of seed production as well as the health of the parent crop. The health of the crop besides using proper agronomic practices is further dependent on several other factors. Sugar beet seed production undergoes two different phases, viz. a vegetative stage from basic seed to stecklings and seed production on vernalized plants. To meet high standards, seed production is exclusively done by farmers under the constant supervision of seed companies. In this chapter, sugar beet seed production through direct and indirect methods, seed processing, and certification has been discussed.KeywordsCertificationMonogermSeedStecklingSugar beet
