Summary

Introduction

Potato is a crop of major economic importance worldwide (FAO, 2008). It is the third most important food crop after rice and wheat (CIP, 2014). The inadequacy of seed potato makes seed potato business very key for improvement of potato production in the zone. This has been attributed to low average yields (7.5 t/ha) as opposed to 40–60 t/h attainable in other developed countries (FAO, 2013). It has been due to lack of engagement of men and women in seed potato business, creating gender related issues that limit maximum production.
