Abstract

ABSTRACTIn 2012, the authors undertook a collaborative teaching process to gain insight into parallels between Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and Language of Dance (LOD). Specifically, the authors were interested in how aspects of the two systems working in tandem could provide useful and practical content and application ideas for dance educators and others who are interested in a clear framework (concepts, principles, categories, and symbols) for movement description and analysis to apply to teaching and creative contexts. The See, Say, Do, Write, Connect (SSDWC) Framework for Laban-Based Learning developed out of that process. Although the SSDWC framework was designed for those who have experience with LOD and LMA, the concepts can be adapted by those less fluent with the originating frameworks.
