Abstract

Abstract Turonian-Senonian (Cretaceous) sections at a series of localities in the Beausset basin, Var, France, are described, with particular reference to individual cyclothems, with a view to interpreting the depositional history. Transgressive detrital sequences (Angoumian and Coniacian) consisting of vertically or laterally sorted Permo-Triassic material occur at the base of the cyclothems. The sequences are arhythmic or pararhythmic. The upper members show alternations or binary rhythms. Reef cyclothems begin with nodular biogenic limestones and generally end with breccias containing reworked Hippurites sp.
