Abstract

After dealing with a “close call” security threat in June, water utility employees in Janesville, Wisconsin, believe they are far more ready now than ever to protect the safety of their water supply. The experience proved to be invaluable in preparing the utility and the city to be ready and responsive to potential future security incidents. Prior to September 11th, the city's 5‐mil gal elevated water storage reservoir didn't have a padlock or fence and the city's potable water supply was relatively easy to access. This article describes how now, like most other municipal water utilities around the country, Janesville has added many improved security features.
