Abstract

Over the last ten years, the use of lottery tickets of the scratch-off type has soared. This has necessitated ever-increasing sophistication in their production methods to eliminate fraud which has become a major threat, particularly on the European continent where the value of prizes is considerably higher than in the UK. This paper discusses the make-up of the lottery tickets, together with the many security techniques now employed to combat the elaborate fraudulent practices that may be encountered.
