Abstract

USSR and the USA, the author first discusses the basic issues of security and disarmament in the maritime context. He then provides an extensive examination of these issues as they relate to the law of the sea, dividing his examination into the main subject areas of internal/archipelagic waters; territorial seas/international straits; contiguous/economic zones; and the continental shelf/deep seabed. After summarizing the implications for UNCLOS Ill, he provides a statistical appendix which details the international straits and passages that would be overlapped by 12 nm territorial seas.
