Abstract

Synthetic power grids are test cases designed to spur innovation, as they contain no confidential energy infrastructure information and thus can be freely published. For building large and complex synthetic grids, this paper proposes a methodology to address security considerations in the transmission planning stage. The two-stage approach runs contingencies and adds lines strategically to fix violations while meeting other validation criteria. Results are shown for 10,000 and 70,000 bus cases.
