Abstract
Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN) is a potential approach for the active discovery and observation of aqueous ecosystem. UWSN communication faces unique challenges due to the constrained acoustic environment. Meanwhile, Named Data Networking (NDN) emerges as a suitable replacement for current IP based internet architecture. NDN offers a solution that best addresses today's networking model's needs, focusing on data-centric communication that enhances network efficiency. This article analyzes how NDN performs in the constrained UWSN environment. Moreover, a detailed analysis of security issues and challenges in NDN based UWSNs is presented. Finally, a security architecture for NDN based UWSNs is proposed and discussed.
