Abstract

The 80’s of the last century were marked by the worsening of the economic crisis in which the communist regime in Romania was sliding. This reality also affected the activity of museums in establishing budgets and financing archaeological research. The economic constraint was added to the ideological one, of respecting the historical truth in the approach to the archaeological data and the organization of the exhibitions. The County Securitate Inspectorates, through Direcția I (Ist Directorate), had the task of verifying and supervising the activity of archaeologists. The present study brings into discussion the situation in Brașov, Harghita and Covasna Counties using archive documents in provenance from Consiliul Național pentru Studierea Arhivelor Securității (National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives).
