Abstract

Now a days, internet is an emerging technology and no one can survive their life without using this. There are several tools available for mobile accessing of internet. For example: Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) etc. Therefore, security of information is required when passes through these networks. In this paper, we of tenly read the security problems faced by basic WLAN and then apply security mechanism on WLAN. It is observed that WLAN uses Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol. WEP is prone to attack due to implementation of simple RC4 cipher. Therefore, a modified version of RC4 cipher for securing WLAN has been proposed in this paper. WLAN is one of the fastest growing Wireless Fidelity (Wi Fi) network that can be used in different enterprises, schools and colleges for obvious reasons.
