Abstract

Security is a prime concern in our day-to-day life and access control systems forms a vital link in a security chain. The New generation security system uses microcontrollers and microprocessors, which provide 100% immunity to theft and burglary. The microcontroller based secure digital lock presented here is an access control system that allows only authorized people to access a restricted area. This system comprises of a numeric keypad which is fixed outside the entry door to control the lock. When an authorized person wants to enter that area, he can release the lock by entering the right password through the keypad. If the entered password matches with the predefined password which is stored in the memory, then the door opens. Cryptography, authentication and access control mechanisms play a vital role, thereby preventing unauthorized hackers meddling with security system. The door control is carried through a relay switch which activates each time a correct password is entered, thus opening the door lock to allow access. The relay/door automatically closes after a desired time interval. An LCD interface is used to make the module more user friendly and efficient.
