Abstract

Wireless sensor network have been broadly used in the fields of target detection and tracking, environmental monitoring, industrial process monitoring and tactical systems. Security and energy efficiency arethe major concerns in the wireless sensor network (WSN) design. This paper develops an energy efficient secure scheme against denial-of-sleep attacks. It is one of the important attacks which cause the battery to exhaust. There are various media access control (MAC) protocolswhich have been proposed for saving energy and to extend the network life time but the existing protocols are insufficient to protect the MAC layer from denial-ofsleep attacks. Therefore to encounter the problem of power exhausting attacks, we design a protocol that simplifies the process of authenticationand improves the MAC performance. This paper proposes a cross layer design, Enhanced Energy Efficient Two-Tier secure scheme to perform under various attacks.
