Abstract

Secure localization has become a serious issue along with increasing security threats in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we address the problem of making sensors in WSNs to locate their positions in an environment in which there exists the threat of wormhole attacks. We propose a secure localization scheme based on DV-Hop algorithm, named secure DV-Hop localization scheme (SDVL), which can fight against wormhole attacks in wireless sensors networks without increasing hardware complexity or too much computational cost. In SDVL, sensors ensure the security of their localization by using an effective detection mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is capable of fighting against wormhole attacks while improving accuracy compared to the basic DV-Hop algorithm.
