Abstract

Sectional views are largely employed in technical drawings to show the form and proportions of hidden or internal parts. To obtain a sectional view the object is supposed to be cut through by a suitable plane, and the portion lying between the plane and the observer removed. The projection of the part actually cut by the plane is called a section, but if the exterior of the solid remaining is projected, as well as the section, the projection is called a sectional plan or sectional elevation.
