Abstract

In China, foreign societies and their Sections are not able to operate independently. SEG Beijing Section is affiliated with the Chinese sister society — the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) of Chinese Petroleum Society (CPS). Its members come primarily from CNPC, BGP, and include student members in North China. Through the efforts of SEG's Membership Services, the number of SEG members in North China has increased from 40 to more than 850. SEG gained its second Section in China in 2011, SEG South China Section, with mem-bers mainly from Sinopec and members and student mem-bers from South China.
