Abstract

A pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma was digested to single cells and the response of these cells to cholinergic and peptide secretagogues was studied. Dose response curves indicated that maximal stimulation was given by acetyl-choline (10-6mol/l), carbachol (3 x 10-5 mol/l), caerulein (10-9mol/l), bombesin (10-7mol/l), substance P (10-7mol/l), secretin (3 x 10-7mol/l) and VIP (10-6mol/l). Cholinergic stimulation was inhibited by atropine and stimulation by caerulein was inhibited by dibutyryl cyclic GMP. Our results show that single cells prepared from the tumour by collagenase digestion still retain these five functional receptors.
