Abstract

This paper provides exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability (OP), the average level crossing rate (LCR) and the average fade duration (AFD) of the selection combining (SC) systems exposed to the cochannel interference (CCI) in Nakagami and/or Rician fading channels. The SC is of an arbitrary diversity order and employs the signal-to- interference power (SIR) algorithm for branch selection, while all input signals are assumed independent. The analytical solution for the average LCR is quite general, applicable over arbitrary combinations of input signal statistics, and specializes to known expressions in absence of CCI and for non-diversity systems in Rayleigh fading. We also establish an important and yet simple relationship between the AFDs of SC systems and non-diversity systems.
