Abstract

Abstract We present a numerical study of compact lattice QED with a large fermionic charge in the quenched approximation. A second- order chiral phase transition appears in the weak coupling region when the fermionic charge becomes almost twice as large as ordinary ones. By redefinition of link variables the compact gauge action approaches to the noncompact one in the limit of an infinite charge of fermions. The phase structure of this compact QED is similar to the phase structure of non-compact QED in the limit.
