Abstract

A second-order calculation of the vibrational energy transfer is performed within the framework of classical mechanics. The ratios of the second-order to the first-order energy transfer values are expressed as functions of two parameters ̃M and 2Lω / V0. The dependence of these ratios on ̃M is linear, while the dependence of these ratios on 2Lω / V0 does not appear to be very sensitive. We conclude that the magnitude of the mass factor ̃M is the decisive factor over the validity of Rapp's first-order calculation.
