Abstract
Tracheoesophageal puncture is a common and reliable method of surgical speech rehabilitation in laryngectomy patients who do not have satisfactory esophageal speech. The surgical procedure is simple and reproducible. It has minimal complications and can be done under ambulatory conditions. Silicon shunt prosthesis and tracheostoma valves have reduced the main drawbacks of esophageal speech, preventing aspiration and finger tracheostoma closure.
