Abstract

Purpose: Secondary membranes are a common problem following pediatric cataract extraction. In many cases it is of sufficient density to cause obscuration of the visual axis and requires removal. While in adults this is usually accomplished as an in-office laser procedure, most pediatric patients must return to the operating room for surgical removal. This has been accomplished with intraoperative YAG laser, a pars plana/posterior approach, or a limbal approach. Method: We performed 25 secondary membranectomies using a limbal approach.
