Abstract

10055 Background: While 90% of patients diagnosed with Hodgkin disease (HD) during childhood are successfully treated, these patients remain at risk for late effects from these therapies. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the frequency of and risk factors for secondary malignant neoplasms (SMNs) among a cohort of HD patients who were treated at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) between 1960 and 1989. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of 182 previously untreated patients with HD who were younger than 20 years of age at the time of diagnosis and were referred to RPCI between 1/1/1960 and 12/31/1989; follow-up extended through 12/31/2007. Sex- and age-specific person-years at risk were accumulated and applied to gender, age-, and time period-specific cancer incidence rates for New York State, excluding New York City. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs), and 95% confidence intervals, were calculated for overall cancer incidence and by type of therapy. Results: Of 182 individu...
