Abstract

Wagner: The topic is secondary implantation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) in children. I will present a case and ask each of you what your general approach would be and then follow up with specific questions. A 5-year-old child who is aphakic and has a visual acuity of 20/30 in each eye with contact lenses is brought in by the parents. They would like to stop using contact lenses and consider intraocular lens implantation because they know older individuals who have had implants, and they want your opinion. Dr. Wilson, at what age is it appropriate to implant IOLs and when do you prefer to do it in a situation like this?
