Abstract
The plastic scintillator tip used as the secondary electron detector of a scanning microscope has a limited working life particularly with high electron beam currents. A detector with an extended life and capable of working up to beam currents of 3*10-6 A has been made by replacing the plastic scintillator tip with one made of a lithium glass scintillator.
