•Available prospective evidence is mixed for whether SCR improves overall survival. •Reviewing similarities & differences of clinical trials is key to applying findings to practice. •GOG-0213, DESKTOP III, and SOC-1 enrolled highly selected cohorts of patients. •Patient selection is critical when considering SCR as part of treatment for recurrent disease. •The goal of SCR should be complete resection of all visible disease.
