Abstract

This article reviews a series of 61 patients, who presented with carcinoma in the cervical nodes when the primary was occult. In 21 cases the primary tumour became apparent later, carcinoma of the bronchus being the most frequent primary site. All the patients were treated by radiotherapy and 5 survived for more than 3 years. Factors of importance in the long survivors include the length of history, the size of the nodes, and the histology. Patients with a history of more than 6 months, nodes of less than 20 sq. cm., and with an anaplastic carcinoma would seem to have the best prognosis.
