Abstract

The Second U.S.‐Japan Ministerial Conference on Environmental Pollution was held in Washington, D.C., June 1–2, 1971. Sadanori Yamanaka, State Minister in charge of Environmental Pollution Countermeasures, headed the Japanese delegation. Russell Train, Chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality was the main U.S. representative. The meeting was a follow‐up of a meeting held in Tokyo October 14, 1970, between Yamanaka and Train. This initial meeting was the result of messages exchanged between Prime Minister Sato and President Nixon which emphasized the need for the U.S. and Japan to intensify their cooperative efforts in combating environmental deterioration.
