Abstract

A microscopic theory of second sound in crystal lattices is developed. A transport equation for the quasi-momentum auto-correlation function is solved analytically for a monatomic lattice with an isotropic phonon spectrum in the hydrodynamic limit. The damping of second sound is obtained in terms of the microscopic expressions for the lattice thermal conductivity and the damping of the quasi-momentum flux density.
