Abstract

This paper demonstrates a second order sliding mode control for a voltage source inverter. A super twisting control algorithm (STA) is used to control the output ac voltage of the voltage source inverter circuit. Using the algorithm tracking of the output voltage is observed with small steady state error. The controller is found to be robust against sudden changes in the load. The output voltage waveform carries less harmonic content. The frequency response analysis shows good stability properties. PSCAD/EMTDC version 4.2 is used for simulation studies. A comparison is also brought about between the classical sliding mode control and the proposed second order sliding mode controller.
