Abstract

An extension of the direct binary search (DBS) algorithm of computer-generated holograms (CGH) design, consisting in flipping pairs of pixels instead of one pixel at a time, yields a substantial reduction in the reconstruction error. A simple technique of an a priori detection of such pairs allows an implementation of the algorithm with the same computational complexity as the DBS method. A new approach for the comparison of CGH synthesis methods is discussed.
