Abstract
In accordance with a desire of the members to hold the annual gatherings in various centres of population in the Brontë country, the second annual meeting of the Society was held at Keighley, in the Mechanics’ Institute, on the 18th of January, 1896. In the previous year Dewsbury had been selected because ofits central position in the “Shirley” country, while this year Keighley was felt to have a strong claim on account of its nearness to the Brontë home. Mr. John Brigg, M. P., Chairman of the Council, was unable to be present owing to the illness of Mrs. Brigg, but the Rev. Canon Lowther Clarke, M.A., Vicar of Dewsbury, occupied the chair on his behalf.
