Abstract

Seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff are chronic skin diseases that belong to the same category. Seborrheic dermatitis is characterized by skin erythema or plaques with varying degrees of itching and scaling, which is usually a response to Malassezia species, and tends to occur in areas with strong sebaceous glands, such as the scalp, face, chest, back, armpits, and groin, caused by Bacillus dandruff breaking down skin oils to produce an inflammatory response. Dandruff is a relatively mild form of seborrheic dermatitis characterized by mild scaling of the scalp without an accompanying inflammatory response.
