A collective investment scheme is a trust based scheme that comprises a pool of assets that is managed by a collective investment scheme manager and is regulated by the Collective Investment Scheme regulations. Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) are a popular form of investment, and they are accessible to all. Each investor has a proportional stake in the Collective Investment Scheme portfolio based on how much money he or she contributed. The SEBI who is also known as investor protector also plays an important role in regulating CIS. This paper attempts to give a brief idea on the working of the collective investment schemes.
