Abstract

Sebaceous adenitis is a non-inflammatory condition characterised by scaling and alopecia. A predisposition is described in some breeds, such as the Standard Poodle and the Akita, but the condition can occur in any breed. The diagnosis is confirmed on histology, by demonstrating the presence of inflammatory cells targeting the sebaceous glands in the early stages of the disorder, or by the total absence of sebaceous glands in the end stage. Several management options are discussed in this paper.
