Abstract

Extraction of alginates from brown algae and utilization of them in the manufacture of thread in Great Britain during World War II led to a survey of seaweed resources along the coast of Great Britain which revealed a supply of over 2,000,000 tons of bottomweed and rockweed in those waters, especially around Scotland.
