Abstract
Keratoacanthoma (KA) is a common benign cutaneous neoplasm developing within a definitive cycle. Its cause is unknown. 1-3 In this study, a clinical and epidemiologic retrospective analysis of 121 cases of KA observed from 1983 through 1992, we evaluated the prevalence of KA in relation to the clinical pattern, the age and sex of the patients, and the location of the lesion. We were also able to analyze the initial time of occurrence of KA in each patient (absolute data, not reflecting the date of hospitalization), and we noted that the cases of KAs seen by our department did not develop in all seasons. Patients and Methods. From 1983 through 1992, our Division of Dermatology hospitalized 12 394 patients; among these we counted 121 biopsy-confirmed cases of KA. Based on history, we estimated the date of clinical onset. The sites affected by this tumor were mainly localized to sun-exposed areas
