Abstract

Monthly sampling of zooplankton in Lake Phewa, Nepal revealed 18 species of zooplankton excluding protozoans. The seasonality and fecundity of the largest common cladoceran Daphnia lumholtzi Sars was studied. Two distinct peaks of abundance were noted. No active stages were found during May and June. Egg ratio varied from zero to 0.88 in mature females. From the presence of only helmeted individuals of this species it is concluded that the predation pressure by fish was high.
