Abstract

The rate of endogenous cholecalciferol synthesis depends on the availability of biologically effective ultraviolet light in solar and sky radiation. There is a striking seasonal variation in the availability of ultraviolet light. In a group of healthy men and women a significant seasonal variation has been demonstrated in serum-25-hydroxy-cholecalciferol (25-H.C.C.) concentration. These findings are of importance in the interpretation of serum-25-H.C.C. values in clinical situations.
