Abstract

Labeo bata constitute an important fishery in beels of West Bengal. An attempt was made to study seasonal variations in condition factor as well as food and feeding habit of this fish during pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon periods (March to November, 2001) in Kulia beel of West Bengal. The relative condition factor varied from 0.907 to 1.076 with higher values during pre-monsoon period. The feeding intensity was found maximum during post-monsoon period. A wide variation was observed in food spectrum of the fish. It fluctuated both season wise as well as with size of the fishes. The details of such variations are discussed.
