Abstract

Abstract The paper discusses the seasonal variations and species diversity of aquatic Coleoptera in a freshwater tropical fish pond at Bhagalpur (Bihar) during June, 1978 to May, 1980. Laccophilus sp. and Canthydrus sp. (Dytiscidae) and Amphiops sp. (Hydrophilidae) were recorded throughout the year. Other members of of these families. although present in the pond in appreciable numbers, were not recorded throughout the year. Possible causes of fluctuations in their population densities have been discussed. The species diversity.(H) and evenness of species (J) of these aquatic Coleoptera showed no such marked fluctuations.
