Abstract

Surface seawater samples collected from five stations within Maizuru Bay, Kyoto Prefecture, for a period of two years from June 1989 to June 1991 were measured for the concentration of butyltin and phenyltin compounds: they were dibutyltin (DBT), tributyltin (TBT), tetrabutyltin (TetBT), monophenyltin (MPT), diphenyltin (DPT) and triphenyltin (TPT). These compounds in seawater were simultaneously converted into their hydrides by sodium borohydride and extracted into dichloromethane. Afterwards they were determined by gas chromatography with flame photometric detection (GC-FPD). In this research, though TetBT, MPT, DPT and TPT were not detected in all seawater samples, both DBT and TBT compounds were detected in most of seawater samples. The concentrations of DBTC and TBTC in seawater of Maizuru Bay ranged from not detectable (ND: <5ng/l) to 74ng/l and from ND to 111ng/l, respectively.
