Abstract

-We used tree-mounted nest boxes to evaluate levels of activity of Peromyscus leucopus and Ochrotomys nuttalli on four large grids in the seasonally flooded Dismal Swamp of Virginia. Flooding, which persisted 9 or more months on some grids, significantly reduced levels of mouse activity. Mouse activity was significantly greater in nest boxes with supplemental food and on large rather than small trees, but neither tree species nor compass direction of the placement of nest boxes on host trees had significant effects.
