Abstract

The seasonal migration of the chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus leucopterus (Say), was studied in Louisiana from 1985 to 1987. Temporal migration studies indicate that chinch bugs emerge from overwintering sites in April and that large emergences are apparently influenced by ambient temperatures. Corn and wheat can be infested simultaneously by the overwintered chinch bugs. Sampling for overwintering chinch bugs in the grass Andropogon virginicus L. indicated large populations in November and December. Population levels in A. virginicus decreased from January through spring emergence in March and April.
