Abstract

Trypsin and chymotrypsin activity in cod, saithe, haddock, tusk and ling viscera from the Barents Sea, Icelandic Sea and South coast of Ireland from three seasons have been compared. Significant differences in activity between seasons are found for cod from the Icelandic Sea. Cod caught in the Barents Sea show no significant seasonal changes in activity. Significant differences between the five species are found. Activity in cod viscera from the Icelandic Sea differ significantly from the two other fishing grounds in February-March. A significant difference was also found between cod from the Icelandic Sea and Barents Sea in April-June, and cod from the Icelandic Sea and South coast of Ireland in October-December.
