Abstract

Highest levels of plasma LH concentrations in adult ( 3-year-old) male lesser Snow Geese (Anser caerulescens caerulescens) were evident in April and May while highest levels in adult females were evident in May and June; these high values correlate well with the times when the gonads are mature. A second increase in LH was found in adult females collected during the early stages of fall migration. Goslings (and yearlings) showed a similar summer elevation of plasma LH concentrations although there was no concomitant increase in gonad size.
