Abstract
NASA plans to crash the upper stage of a rocket into a crater on the Moon's South Pole to look for water, the agency announced on 10 April.The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) was chosen by NASA as the secondary payload on the launch vehicle for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). LRO is scheduled to for launch in October 2008 and will create high‐resolution maps of the lunar surface for use in planning future Moon missions.
