Abstract

When new technologies are developed at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), the inventors are required to disclose their accomplishments to the JSC Innovation Partnerships Office (IPO), where they are analyzed and evaluated for their potential to be of public and commercial benefit. These disclosures often lead to U.S. Government patents, licenses to commercial companies, publication in NASA Tech Briefs magazine, software releases, and NASA awards for the inventors. This paper reports and analyzes data regarding new technology evaluations (NTE’s) conducted by the JSC IPO in 2006-2009, as well as a summary of panel recommendations and 2010 trends. Although the presented data reflects solely NASA-JSC activity, readers will be provided with information to help them initiate their own new technology disclosure, no matter which NASA Center they support.
