Abstract

The Berkeley County Board of Education is seeking an outstanding educational leader to serve as superintendent of its countywide school system of more than 33,000 students. Berkeley County is just north of and adjacent to historic Charleston, SC. The district is located in the popular South Carolina low country very near the Atlantic coast. It is one of the largest districts in the state and has experienced excellent community support for its schools that has resulted in the modernization of existing schools and the construction of new ones to meet growth demands. A candidate must be eligible for certification as a superintendent in South Carolina. The Board expects to offer an initial multi-year contract with a negotiable salary of approximately $210,000 depending on qualifications and experience plus a competitive benefit package. The new superintendent will officially assume this position at a mutually agreeable time to the candidate and the Board, but no later than July 1, 2015.
